I started in television in 1965 with Marconi Mk Ivs and an RCA TRT 1A followed by a couple of Ampex 1000C's. Still working for TVNZ. Love the site will be forwarding its details to my colleagues. Good luck for its future longevity and growth.

Hi there (brings back too many memories).

Could I be a bit anoraky and pedantic to correct a couple of things?

1) I was on Shift 1 with the likes of John "Sludge" Llewellyn and Dave Rixon on the Tea Swindle (Geoff Taylor's).

2) John Naulls memory is failing as the DE 55 Course was in September 77 the C Part 2 was in 78.

Cheers Steve Mott

I was in VT from April 1989 to May 1996 - I miss the original area a huge amount. I'm in facilities in the West End of London now surrounded by 24 year olds and can honestly honestly say that leaving the BBC was one of the most stupid things I've ever done as there is no way back in now if you are out. Great site - love the memories of an age past.

I worked in Current Ops from 1983 to 1989. Those pics bring back a ton of memories and yes it DOES seem like yesterday!! Now where did I put that `J` spool for tonight's 'Grand Prix' edit??? ?

I was at the 'BeeB'IN THE EARLY '60'S and then got poached by InterTel as an expert VTR man! I will always remember editing a Motor Show tape in GENEVA on a rusty misaligned Smith's splicer which completely ruined the tape and led to our Welsh cameraman('Taffy'of course!)stating over talkback that our company should be called "Intercourse" not Intertel

What an interesting & comprehensive site. I started in TV in 1976 in Melbourne Australia many of the machines noted are familiar

I've been curious about what types of VTR's were used in England and other parts of the world. It is interesting to see that they were in large part the same machines used here in the U.S. I've worked both in tape operations and maintenance for a number of years beginning way back in the 2" days of the late 70's. I get my hands on digital beta beta sx

Great stuff - thank you! I was on DE36 in 1973 but diverted to BH Comms instead of going to VT. Recognise some of the people on C Course 102 who were also on DE36. Had a great time until 1985 when I left to earn some money!
P.S. Anyone care to 'fess about "Merry Christmas VT"?
